STORRS, Conn. - The UConn Huskies are set to open play in the 2025 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship presented by JEEP this weekend at the Callawassie Island Golf Club.
The league championship event returns to Callawassie Island in Okatie, S.C. for the first time since the 2019 tournament and gets underway Saturday, April 26 at 8 am. The Huskies are on the hunt for their third BIG EAST title and will tee it up with defending champ Seton Hall, Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, St. John's, Villanova and Xavier to battle it out for this year's trophy.
GameKast Live, a golf streaming service, will provide free streaming coverage for a third straight year. Select holes will be covered in addition to live commentary from the 18th green.
UConn, who claimed the league title in 2021 and in 1994, is looking to bounce back from an eighth-place finish at last spring's event. The Huskies, who posted top-five team finishes in all five of their spring tournaments, will roll out the lineup of junior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT), sophomore Alex Heard (Boca Raton, FL), senior Ray Dennehy (Princeton, MA), sophomore Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) and senior Vikram Konanki (Newton, MA) with senior Eric Boulger (Walpole, MA) in the substitute role.
Goode has been the Huskies' top-finisher in five tournaments this year and leads the team with a 71.7 per round average coming into championship weekend. Goode has posted 15 rounds of par or better golf this season, recording four top-10 finishes and six finished within the top-20.
Heard, who had an injury cut his fall season short, battled back this spring and posted a pair of top-10 finishes. He won his first career BIG EAST Golfer of the Week honor after finishing second at the Dorado Beach Collegiate back in February. Heard owns a 71.8 per round average and has posted 13 rounds at par or better this season.
Dennehy, who was UConn's top-finisher at last season's BIG EAST Championship with a 13th place finish, has a 72.2 per round average this year. He has three top 10's on the year with his top-finish being a second place showing at the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse.
Sawka, who was the 2024 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, matched Dennehy and Goode playing a team-high 29 rounds over all 10 events this season. He sports a 73.1 per round average. Konanki has come on strong late this season and will compete in his first career conference championship event this weekend. He had the best showing of his career at the Golfweek Invitational at the beginning of April, earning an eighth-place finish with a career-low three round score of 210. He matched Dennehy for the lowest round by a Husky this season, firing a 65.
The BIG EAST champion gains an automatic berth to the 2025 NCAA Championship. The individual medalist also receives an NCAA Championship invitation.
