Huskies Tied For 2nd After Round 1 Of Invitational

HAMPDEN, Mass. – Junior Ray Dennehy, sophomore Connor Goode and senior Tommy Dallahan each posted a top 10 score to lead the UConn men's golf team into a tie for second place after the first round of the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse on Sunday in Hampden, Mass.
Dennehy (Princeton, Mass.) and Goode (Glastonbury, Conn.) each fired a 1-under 71 to be part of a five-way tie for fourth place on the player leaderboard. Dennehy carded three birdies during his round, while Goode had five as they finished just one stroke behind the tournament's tri-leaders – Marcelo Mexsen of LIU, Mike McConie of Siena and Pyae Phyo Thu of Fairleigh Dickinson.
Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) was one stroke behind his teammates as he shot a three-birdie, even-par 72, to tie for ninth place in the 78-player field.
The three top 10 Huskies combined with junior Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) and freshman Bradley Sawka (Ellington, Conn.) to total an aggregate 4-over 292 for the Huskies, good enough to tie Boston College and Iona University for second place in the 13-team field, two strokes behind first-round leader Siena College (290). Lopez an Sawka finished in a tie for 52nd place after each carded a 6-over 78.
Playing as individuals, UConn junior Eric Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) tied for 19th place with a 2-over 74, and freshman Alex Heard (Boca Raton, Fla.) tied for 41st place with 5-over 77. Freshman Jack Kantowski (Boca Raton, Fla.) was tied for 52nd with a 6-over 78, sophomore Chris Sacher (Schoeffengrund, Hesse, Germany) was tied for 63rd with an 8-over 80, junior Vikram Kokanki (Newton, Mass.) was tied for 73rd with and 11-over 83, and sophomore Colin Spencer (Mashpee, Mass.) was in 75th place with a 13-over 85.
The UConn Invitational, in its fifth year at GreatHorse, continues on Monday with its second round, with the third and final round set for Tuesday.
