UConn Finishes 2-1 at BIG EAST Match-Play

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The UConn men's golf team got their spring season underway on Monday and Tuesday finishing with a 2-1 record at the BIG EAST Match-Play event held at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Huskies were 2-1 in their seven-match contests with Creighton, Xavier and Marquette. UConn finished with an overall record of 15-6-0 to take second place. The Huskies opened play with a 6-1 win over Creighton and then beat Xavier, 4-3, on Monday.  UConn fell to Marquette to close the tournament on Tuesday, 5-2. The Golden Eagles would win the event, finishing 3-0-0.

Junior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, Conn.) along with sophomores Bradley Sawka (Ellington, Conn.) and Alex Heard (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Matt Costello (Taunton, Mass.) all finished 2-1-0 at the event to lead the Huskies. Senior Ray Dennehy (Princeton, Mass.) was 1-1-1 in his matches.

Both Goode and Heard each carded an eagle and both had seven birdies over the event.  Sawka led all Huskies with eight birdies over the three matches and ranked seventh among all players with 32 pars. Dennehy led all UConn players and was tied for second in the field with 34 total pars.

The Huskies will return to tournament play on February 23 through 25 as they take part in the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico.
