Senior Dallahan Leads Huskies at Carolina Cup

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UConn golf team wrapped up play at The Carolina Cup on Tuesday afternoon with the Huskies finished 10th overall in the 15-team field at 72-hole event at the Carolina Country Club.

UConn senior Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) led the way for the Huskies, finishing tied for fifth overall in the 83-player field on the par 72 course.  The Huskies finished with a three-round total score of 907 but improved on each day of the event, shooting 313-300-294.  Kennesaw State took the team title with a score of 299-292-287=878, beating JMU by four strokes (306-289-287=882).

Dallahan opened his tournament on Sunday with a 76 but came back to card matching one-under scores of 71 on Monday and Tuesday to fight his way up the leaderboard to a fifth-place finish.  It was Dallahan's best finish of the young season, his first top-10 placing on the year and marked his lowest tournament score (218).

Junior Ray Dennehy (Princeton, Mass.) and freshman Bradley Sawka (Ellington, Conn.) both tied for 48th overall.  After shooting 81 on Sunday and a 79 on Monday, Dennehy came roaring back in Tuesday's final round, carding a one-under 71 to finish with at 231.  Dennehy's 71 matched his low round of the season.  Sawka finished with a three-round score of 78-76-77=231.

Junior Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) and sophomore Connor Goode (Glastonbury, Conn.) rounded out the Huskies' top-five.  Lopez was tied for 60th overall at 78-74-82=234 and Goode was tied for 67th at 83-79-75=237.  Junior Eric Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) was tied for 60th playing as an individual, carding a 75-79-80=234.

The Huskies have one more fall tournament on the schedule when they travel to Maui, Hawaii for the Ka'anapali Collegiate Invitational at the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course on October 26-28.
