Spring Season Opens at BIG EAST Match-Play

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's golf team kicks-off the 2025 spring portion of its schedule with BIG EAST Match Play, set for Monday and Tuesday at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach. Fla.

The event, in its fourth year, will feature teams from Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Marquette, St. John's, Villanova, and Xavier joining the Huskies.  The event will utilize the match play format, which is not the norm during the regular season, but comes in to play during postseason golf. The two-day event gets underway at the par 72, 7,439 yard Lakes course on Monday, February 3 and concludes on Tuesday, February 4.

The Huskies have won the event in each of the past three seasons. Last spring, UConn went 3-0 with wins over Butler, Creighton and Seton Hall, posting an overall record of 14-4-3. This year's UConn line-up will feature seniors Ray Dennehy (Princeton, MA) and Eric Boulger (Walpole, MA), junior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT), sophomores Alex Heard (Boca Raton, FL), Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) and freshmen Caden Blanchette (Manchester, PA) and Matt Costello (Taunton, MA).

Heard was one of the top Huskies at last season's event, finishing 3-0-0 while firing 15 birdies, two off the lead for the tournament.  Both Boulger and Goode were 2-1-0 last spring while Dennehy and Sawka finished 1-1-1.  Dennehy had 11 birdies over the tournament while Boulger eagled twice in his matches.

During the fall's five events, Goode led the Huskies as the low scorer in three events including a fourth-place finish at the Xavier Invitational.  He starts the spring averaging 71.7 over 12 rounds played this season with a team-best seven rounds at par or better.

Dennehy has the highest finish for the Huskies in the fall, tying for second place at the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse. He had a team-low 71.5 per round average (15 rounds), six rounds at par or better and matched Goode with two top-10 finishes.
