Huskies Finish Fifth at The Rutherford Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, PA – The UConn Huskies rounded out play in the 48th Annual Rutherford Invitational at Penn State on Sunday, taking home a fifth place finish in the 12 team field.

UConn finished the three round event shooting an 864 (293-289-282), finishing +12. The Huskies improved over each round and shot a two-under 282 on Sunday, tying for the lowest team score over the final round.  Delaware took home the team title, finishing -3 for the weekend at the par 71, 7,130 yard Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa.

Junior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT) turned in another strong tournament for the Huskies, earning his fourth top-10 finish of the season. Goode finished tied for eighth place on the leaderboard, finishing one-over with at 214 (74-72-68) over the weekend. Goode tied for the lowest score on Sunday with a 68 (-3), giving him a team-best 15 rounds at par or better this season. He was third in the field with 11 birdies. It was the fifth time this season Goode has been UConn's top-finisher.

Sophomore Alex Heard (Boca Raton, FL) just missed out on a top-10 finish, coming home in 12th after shooting 215 (73-71-71).  Heard shot even par 71 during both the second and third rounds and was the best player in the field playing par 4s, averaging 3.94 strokes on the weekend (-2). He tied for third in the field with 38 pars over the 54-holes. Heard notches his fourth top-20 finish this season has 13 rounds at par or better on the year.

UConn senior Ray Dennehy (Princeton, NJ) and sophomore Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) were just outside the top-20 on the leaderboard, both tying for 22nd place with matching 218's. Dennehy shot 74, 73, and 71 while Sawka posted scores of 72, and 73 during rounds two and three.

Rounding out the UConn contingent was senior Vikram Konanki (Newton, MA) in 44th place with a 224 (77-75-72) and senior Trevor Lopez (Winchester, MA) in 51st as an individual with a 227 (77-77-73).

The Huskies will now turn their attention to the BIG EAST Conference Championship on April 26 through 28 at Callawassie Island Golf Club in Okatie, SC.
