Men's Golf Face Strong Competition at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Connecticut men's golf team opened the 2023 fall season facing strong competition at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate this weekend. 

The Huskies scored an aggregate 300-291-294=885 on the par 70 course, finishing 14th on the team leader board. Tennessee carried its own tournament taking first overall shooting 25 under par with a 273-265-277=815.

Individually for UConn, senior Tommy Dallahan went on to lead the Huskies in the second round, posting three birdies on the front nine on his way to shooting the low round of the weekend for UConn, carding a 68. In Sunday's third round, Dallahan was even par after nine holes but played the back nine four-over to finish the round with a 74 and a weekend score of 77-68-74=219, to tie for 48th.  It was the highest finish for the Huskies on the weekend. 

Junior Trevor Lopez was tied for 57th in the field after the weekend, but improved his scores with each round.  After shooting 76 on Friday, Lopez came back on Saturday to card a 74 with a pair of birdies and then closed the weekend with a 72 on the scorecard.

Junior Ray Dennehy also was a bright spot for UConn, shooting his low score of the weekend, a 73, during Saturday's round two.  On Sunday, Dennehy got off to a good start, carding three-straight birdies on the front nine.  He finished with a 74 on his final 18 and tied for 60th on the weekend, shooting 75-73-74=222.

Sophomore Connor Goode finished the first round shooting two over to lead the Huskies after day one. Goode scored three birdies over his first 18 holes. Goode would finish 74th after three rounds as he shot a 72-77-78=227.

The Huskies will look ahead to hosting the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse Country Club in Hampden, Mass., on Oct. 1-3.
