Huskies Set for Xavier Invitational

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's golf team is right back in action this week as they take part in the Xavier Invitational presented by Gateway Logistics.

The Huskies will take part in the 54-hole tournament being held at Maketewah Country Club in Cincinnati, OH on Monday and Tuesday, October 21 and 22.  The field will feature host Xavier, the Huskies along with Morehead State, Oakland, Southern Indiana, Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech, Northern Kentucky, IU Indianapolis, Purdue Ft. Wayne, and Detroit Mercy.  Teams will play 36 holes on Monday with Tuesday set aside for the final round.

UConn is coming off an appearance in the Elon Phoenix Invitational last week where they battled their way to a seventh place finish as a team.  Junior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT) is off to a strong start to the season and leads the Husky contingent of senior Ray Dennehy (Princeton, MA), sophomore Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT), seniors Vikram Konanki (Newton, MA) and Eric Boulger (Walpole, MA) and freshman Matt Costello (Taunton, MA), playing as an individual, into this week's event.

Goode is coming off a 12th place finish at Elon, his third top-20 finish in three events this season.  Goode leads the team with five rounds at par or better and sports a 71.8 per round average in the early going.  His teammate Dennehy has been impressive in the young season as well, posting a 71.9 per round average after shooting the lowest round by a Husky this season with a 65 in the final round of the Elon event.  Dennehy and Goode are both coming off their lowest tournament score this season.

The rest of the UConn lineup can say the same as Sawka, Konanki and Boulger all are coming off their lowest tournament scores as well.  Sawka, who has played all three events, posted a 219 at Elon and owns a 74.0 per round average so far.

Following this week's tournament at Xavier the Huskies will wrap up the fall portion of their schedule taking part in the Ka'anapali Classic in Maui, HI on November 2-4.
