Huskies Take 3rd at ECU Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The UConn golf team took home a third place finish at the ECU Intercollegiate at Brook Valley on Tuesday.  The Huskies finished up third in the 16 team field over three rounds at the Brook Valley CC.

The Huskies finished with a total score of 894 (+30) over the two days, finishing behind tournament champion UCF (872) and host East Carolina (884).  UConn posted an opening round of 302 on Monday and finished their second round on Tuesday morning, shooting 292.  The Huskies closed it out on Tuesday afternoon shooting 300.

UConn was led sophomore Alex Heard (Boca Raton, FL) who notched his second top-10 finish of the spring by tying for eighth place overall on the leaderboard.  Heard finshed at +2 for the tournament, shooting a 218 (73-69-76).  His second round score of 69 put him among six players in the field who were under par in the round.  It was his ninth round at par or better this season.  He was fourth in the field with 38 total pars over the 54-holes.  

Senior Ray Dennehy (Princeton, MA) posted a 24th place finish, shooting 224 (77-75-72).  Dennehy was the best player in the field on the par 5's, averaging a 4.58 (-5) over the course of the tournament.  He tied for fourth in the tournament making 10 birdies.

The Huskies were rounded out by junior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT) who tied for 27th (75-72-78=225), sophomore Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) who tied for 46th (79-76-74=231) and senior Eric Boulger (Walpole, MA) who tied for 61st (77-81-76=234).  Playing as individuals, senior Vikram Konanki (Newton, MA) took 43rd (77-78-75=230) and freshman Matt Costello (Taunton, MA) was tied for 81st (87-75-77=239).

UConn will have a week off before return to action in the Golfweek Invitational at the True Blue Golf Club in Pawley's Island, S.C. on March 31 to Aprill 2.
