Quick Hits…
The UConn Huskies kick-off the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon heading to College Park, Md. to face the Maryland Terrapins at SECU Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:03 pm live on FS1.
Saturday's match-up is the fourth ever meeting between the Huskies and Terrapins on the gridiron with Maryland holding a 2-1 edge in the series. The two teams last met in 2012, a UConn win in their last trip to College Park, and in 2013, with Maryland posting a win at Rentschler Field. The two teams first met back in the 1942 season in Storrs. This will mark the first match-up with Maryland as a member of the Big Ten.
UConn will open the season on the road for the third time in the last four seasons. Prior to that, you have to go back to the 2010 opener (at Michigan, L 30-10) to find the last time the Huskies started on the road. Their last road win to open a season came in 2009, a 23-16 win at Ohio. The Huskies are 13-8 in season openers since the start of their FBS era in 2002.
The 2024 campaign will mark the fourth season the Huskies will compete as an independent. Saturday's match-up with Maryland is the only game against a Big Ten school this season. UConn has three match-ups with teams from the ACC this season (Duke, Wake Forest, Syracuse). The Huskies face four teams from their former conference, The American (FAU, Temple, Rice, UAB).
Last Meeting vs. Maryland - Sept. 14, 2013 - Maryland 32 - UConn 21 - Rentschler Field

The game marked the return of former UConn head coach Randy Edsall to the state to face his former team, having left after the 2010 season to take the head job at Maryland. UM wide receiver Stefon Diggs had 110 yards receiving, including a 12-yard touchdown for the Terrapins, who improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2001 with the win. Scouting the Terrapins... The Maryland Terrapins enter the 2023 season under sixth-year head coach Michael Locksley and fresh off their third-straight season with a bowl win last fall. The Terrapins have posted eight wins in each of the last two seasons and won the 2023 Music City Bowl over Auburn, 31-13, open the season against the Huskies looking to extend a 12-game non-conference winning streak. Maryland had 16 All-Big Ten selections last season, the program's most since joining the league in 2014. The offense will be bolstered by the return of all-conference running back Roman Hemby, who ran for 708 yards and four TDs last fall. All-Big Ten wideouts Tai Felton and Kaden Prather also return. Felton caught 48 balls for 723 yards and a team-best six scores while Prather had 42 receptions for 666 yards and five TDs. The Terps will have a fresh face at quarterback for the first time in three seasons with the departure of the Big Ten's all-time leader in passing yards, Tualia Tagovailoa. Defensively, third team All-Big Ten linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II is the team's top-returning tackler with 66 stops, 47 solo, last year. The Terps will open the Big Ten schedule next week hosting Michigan State.
UConn vs. the BIG TEN... The Huskies are 2-6 all-time against the Big Ten. The Huskies are 2-1 against Indiana, 0-3 against Michigan, and 0-1 against both Illinois and Purdue. UConn has faced both Maryland (1-2) and Rutgers (11- 22) but prior to both schools joining the Big Ten. The Huskies have future games scheduled with Maryland and Indiana in 2026 and Purdue in 2029.
