The Huskies begin their fourth season competing as an FBS independent and will open 2024 on Saturday, August 31st on the road at the University of Maryland from the Big Ten Conference. This will be the fourth meeting all-time between the two schools and first since the 2012 season, a 24-21 UConn win on the road. The Terps hold a 2-1 edge in the series.
The 2024 home opener will take place a week later as the Huskies welcome Merrimack College to The Rent on September 7th for a first-ever match-up between the two schools. UConn has played at least one FCS opponent in each season since moving up to FBS in 2002 and is 20-2 in those games.
UConn will face three Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) teams in 2024, the first coming on the road on September 14th at Duke University. The Huskies and Blue Devils met during the 2023 season, a 41-7 win by then No. 18 nationally ranked Duke in East Hartford. After that game this past fall, UConn and Duke announced an agreement for four future games during the 2025 (H), 2026 (A), 2029 (H) and 2030 (A) seasons.
Following their trip to Durham, NC, the Huskies will not venture back out on the road until the second week of November thanks to six-straight scheduled for their home turf. UConn will kick-off the longest homestand in their 21-seasons playing at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field on Saturday, September 21st against Florida Atlantic. The two schools have met just once before, a 61-14 UConn win at home in 2002. This will also mark the first of four games against teams from the American Athletic Conference (AAC) this upcoming season.
UConn follows their match-up with the Owls by hosting the University of Buffalo from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) on Saturday, September 28th and Temple University from the AAC on Saturday, October 5th. UConn is 16-5 all-time against Buffalo but hasn't faced the Bulls since a loss on the road during the 2013 season. UConn and Temple have not met on the gridiron since the Huskies' last season in the AAC in 2019. The Owls hold a 15-5 edge in the all-time series.
Following a bye week, the Huskies are back home on Saturday, October 19th for their second match-up against an ACC team with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons coming to town. UConn and Wake Forest last met in the 2007 Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, NC, a 24-10 win for the Demon Deacons. UConn's lone win in the three meetings between the two schools came in 2003, 51-17, on the road.
UConn wraps up their home schedule with games against teams they faced in 2023. The Huskies host Rice University from the AAC on Saturday, October 26th and Georgia State from the Sun Belt Conference on Saturday, November 2nd. UConn got their first win of 2023 by beating the Owls on the road, 38-31, last October in the first-ever match-up between the two schools. The Huskies and Panthers also met for the first-time last season in Atlanta, GA with Georgia State dealing UConn a loss in week two.
The Huskies play three-straight on the road to close out the season starting on Saturday, November 9th when they make their longest road trip of the fall and head to Birmingham, AL for a first-ever meeting with the UAB Blazers of the AAC.
UConn will have a second bye and then head to Syracuse University for their final meeting with an ACC opponent on Saturday, November 23rd. The all-time series is tied at six wins apiece with the Orange winning the last match-up in 2022 in East Hartford. The Huskies wrap the season on the road at fellow independent Massachusetts on Saturday, November 30th. UConn has won two-straight in the all-time series and closed out 2023 with a 31-18 win on the road in Amherst, MA. The Minutemen hold a slim 38-37-2 edge in the all-time series between the New England rivals.
