2024 Football Training Camp Underway
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn football team kicked-off their 2024 summer training camp with their first practice on Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday marked the start of the third training camp under head coach Jim Mora bas the Huskies start the march to the 2024 season opener on Saturday, August 31 on the road at Maryland.
The 2024 home opener at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field is slated for week two against Merrimack on Saturday, September 7. 2024 season tickets, two-game and three-game flex packs, group tickets, and single game tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting UConnTickets.com.
The Huskies are set to host the second annual Inside the Huddle event on Saturday, August 10 at The Rent. This year's event will be open to the public and will feature tailgating opportunities, a "Meet the Coaches" panel exclusive to football season ticket holders, and an open practice portion.
The team kicked-off their preseason on Tuesday afternoon by taking the official 2024 team picture and rolled into Wednesday's first practice of the season. The Huskies are looking to rebound from a 3-9 season in 2023 and will have plenty of new faces in the blue and white and on the coaching staff this year. The Huskies have two new coordinators as Matt Brock is the team's new defensive coordinator, coming to Storrs from Mississippi State and Gordon Sammis taking over offensive coordinator duties. The Huskies also have a new quarterback coach in Brad Robbins as well.
Since the start of spring football, the Huskies brought in 27 new transfers as well as 22 freshmen. UConn returns five starters on the offensive side of the ball led by two-year starter, bookend senior tackles Chase Lundt and Valentin Senn and the team's top-two rushers last season in junior Victor Rosa and r-sophomore Cam Edwards. Wideout Brett Buckman is back after a career-year in finishing second on the team with 46 catches.
On defense, UConn returns seven starters from last fall. Senior safeties Malik Dixon-Williams and Rante Jones have held down the defensive backfield the last two seasons and return along with senior linebacker Tui Faumuina-Brown who had a career year last fall finishing third on the team in tackles. The defensive line returns three starters in r-junior end Pryce Yates and senior tackles Jelani Stafford and Dal'Mont Gourdine.
