Jim Mora Named The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Head Coach of the Year

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

STORRS, Conn. - The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston in conjunction with The New Balance Athletic Shoe Company announced they have chosen UConn head football coach Jim Mora as their 2024 Head Coach of the Year. Coach Mora will be honored along with the rest of the award winners at The Bob Whelan College Football Awards Night on Monday, December 16 in Burlington, Mass.

Coach Mora just completed his third season at the helm at UConn, guiding the Huskies to an 8-4 record and a bowl game for the second time during his tenure. UConn's eight wins is the most for the program since 2010, also securing the first winning season since that campaign. The Huskies enjoyed a five-win turnaround from last season and also returned to their winning ways at home at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, posting a 6-1 record on their home turf this fall.

The UConn offense and defense both made improvements from a year ago. The Husky offensive attack scored 388 points this season (32.3 ppg), the most points scored since the 2009 season and the fifth most in program history.  The ground game churned out 2,380 yards, the fifth highest total in program history while ranking 23rd in the NCAA in rushing yards per game (198.3). On defense, UConn allowed 286 points (23.8 ppg), their fewest points given up since the 2015 season.

The 2024 season marks the fifth winning campaign for Coach Mora during his collegiate coaching tenure. This will be the sixth post season bowl appearance for a Mora coached team during his nine seasons at UCLA and UConn combined.

Coach Mora and the Huskies will await the announcement of their bowl placement on Sunday, December 8 as they will look to secure the first nine win season since the 2007 season.
