Three Huskies Named All-New England
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn football team had three members selected to the 2024 New England Football Writers Association All-New England team announced on Sunday. Senior offensive tackle Chase Lundt (Arlington, TX), senior linebacker Tui Faumuina-Brown (Pittsburg, PA), and grad student kicker Chris Freeman (Zionsville, IN) were three of 37 New England all-stars representing 16 FBS and FCS schools from the region named to this year's team.
Lundt, who was most recently invited to the prestigious Reese's Senior Bowl, been a fixture on the UConn offensive line during all four seasons in Storrs. He has made 48 career starts, missing just one game during his Husky career. The UConn line has put together another strong season in 2024, helping lead a rushing attack that ranks 23rd in the nation in yards per game at 198.3 yards per game. In the passing game, the Huskies protect the quarterback to the tune of allowing just 1.00 sack per game, ranked 13th among the nation's leaders.
Faumuina-Brown started all 12 games for the second-consecutive season to lead the UConn defensive unit. The senior linebacker had a career season, posting 88 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also had six pass break-ups and a forced fumble. He ranked 84th nationally in tackles averaging 7.3 per game. The UConn defense ranked 58th nationally in total defense (359.1), 58th in scoring defense (23.8 ppg), 42nd in rushing defense (135.3), 44th in first downs defense (225) and 10th in third down conversion percent defense (.312).
Freeman who transferred to the Huskies this fall stepped right in and led UConn in scoring, converting all 46 extra point attempts and 18 field goals for 100 points. His 18 field goals made are the fifth most in program history for a season and the most by a Husky kicker since the 2011 season (Dave Teggart -22/27). During the season, Freeman converted a streak of 11-straight field goal attempts, tying the UConn record set in 2008 by Dave Teggart. Freeman also buried a pair of 53-yard field goals this season, his new career long. His 53-yarder against Wake Forest was the longest field goal make by a UConn kicker at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
The 2024 team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 12, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel and Conference Center.
