2024 Maui Bracket Announced, Huskies Draw Memphis
MAUI, Hawaii – The back-to-back defending national champion UConn men's basketball team will take on Memphis in the first round of the 2024 Maui Invitational, as announced by the tournament along with the full bracket on Tuesday (Aug. 19). The Huskies and Tigers will open the tournament from the Lahaina Civic Center at 2:30 ET / 9:30 a.m. Hawaiian on ESPN2.
In the second round, Connecticut will take on either Colorado or Michigan State. Auburn, Dayton, Iowa State and North Carolina round out the field, one of which will be UConn's third match-up. The tournament runs on consecutive days from Nov. 25-27.
The Huskies will return to Maui for the fifth time in 2024, making their first appearance in 2000 and winning the tournament in 2005 and 2010. The 2010-11 Huskies followed their title in Maui by going on to win the BIG EAST Tournament and the program's third national championship. UConn last visited Maui in 2016 and is 9-3 all-time in the tournament.
UConn and Memphis have squared off 16 times in the past, dating back to Nov. 16, 2007 in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic at Madison Square Garden. The other 15 meetings came between 2014-20 when the Huskies and Tigers were league-mates in The American. The series is tied all-time at 8-8, with UConn taking the most recent affair on Feb. 16, 2020 at the XL Center.
Both of Connecticut's potential second round opponents are also familiar foes. The Huskies faced Colorado in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, a first round victory. UConn is 4-4 all-time against Michigan State in a series which dates back to 1998 and includes a pair of memorable NCAA Tournament bouts.
UConn's non-conference schedule is nearly complete, with previously announced contests against Baylor (Dec. 4), at Texas (Dec. 8) and vs. Gonzaga (Dec. 14) already on the books.
