Huskies Announce Plans For Coaches vs. Cancer Game
The UConn men's basketball team will host its annual Coaches vs. Cancer game on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. when the Huskies take on DePaul at the XL Center.
When doors open at 6:30 p.m., fans will find Andrea Hurley, wife of head coach Dan Hurley, and other spouses and family of the coaching and support staff at the Coaches vs. Cancer table, located on the concourse near section 124.
Fans are encouraged to submit a 3" photo or smaller of a loved one who has been affected by cancer and join Mrs. Hurley in creating memorial buttons to wear during the game. To submit a photo, please visit UConnHuskies.com/CvC. More information will be sent via email to fans who submit a photo for a Coaches vs. Cancer button.
Fans who do not pre-submit photos can bring photos to the game and have a button made upon arrival. If bringing in a printed-out photo, please make sure it is 3" or smaller. Cancer awareness ribbons will also be available at the table for fans to wear.
New this season, doctors from the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at UConn Health will be at the game to offer fans free cancer screenings and education. Stop by their tables throughout the concourse before halftime to ask questions and arrange screenings for lung cancer, mammograms, and colonoscopies. Additionally, skin cancer checks will be available in the XL Center Atrium prior to the game. Fans are encouraged to take this opportunity to learn more about cancer prevention and protecting their health. UConn Health is the official healthcare provider of the UConn Huskies.
Prior to tip-off, we will honor loved ones with a light ceremony in the stands. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and be ready to take out your phone flashlight as we light up XL Center in honor of those affected by the disease. During the game, patients from the Connecticut Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders will be honored on the court. Other special recognitions and cancer awareness-related initiatives will take place before and during the game.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide initiative that empowers basketball coaches, their teams and their local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The main goal is to increase cancer awareness, promote healthy living, and fundraise through activities.
