Huskies Top Merrimack
STORRS, Conn. – The No. 15 ranked UConn women's hockey team defeated the Merrimack Warriors, 3-1 on Friday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. The Huskies sweep Merrimack in the season series, taking all nine points from the Warriors. With the win, UConn improves to 15-3-2 in Hockey East and 17-8-2 overall on the season.
Senior goaltender Megan Warrener made her eleventh start of the season for the Huskies. Warrener made 19 saves in the win.
The game was scoreless through the first period as the Huskies led in shots, 11-7.
Freshman forward Sadie Hotles opened the scoring for the Huskies, recording her first career goal in a UConn uniform.
Senior forward Jada Habisch doubled the Huskies lead on the power play with just two seconds remaining in the second period. Habisch now has seven goals on the season and 55 for her career.
UConn took the two goal lead into the second intermission, as the Huskies dominated in shots in the second period, 18-5.
Merrimack didn't go down quietly as the Warriors scored with seven minutes remaining in the third period off the stick of Alex Ferguson, her second of the season.
Freshman forward Claire Murdoch sealed the win for the Huskies with an empty netter. Murdoch now has a team high 12 goals this season.
