Huskies Set to Kick off 2024 NCAA Tournament vs. UMass

STORRS, Conn. – After their impressive 2024 BIG EAST Championship win, the UConn Huskies field hockey team is set to being the 2024 NCAA Tournament. With the championship victory, the Huskies earned an automatic bid and secured a No. 3 seed, giving them the chance to host. The first match is set to begin at noon on ESPN+.

Under head coach Paul Caddy, UConn (17-3, 6-1) is hitting its stride at just the right time, combining explosive offense with a solid defense that's allowed them to dominate all season.

In their opening game, the Huskies will take on the University of Massachusetts during the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. UConn and UMass have already faced off this season in a tight battle, where the Huskies came out on top 1-0. Julia Bressler's clutch penalty stroke with just 52 seconds left in the third quarter made the difference.

As the No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament, UConn will have home-field advantage throughout the first two rounds. The Huskies' offense led by key players like junior Julia Bressler, Juul Sauer and Sophie Perschk will look to continue to stay hot. In midfield, junior Sol Simone, sophomore Olivia McKenna and seniors Madi Herb and Sophia Ugo will play pivotal roles.

Following the UConn vs. UMass game, Harvard and Syracuse will face off with the winner advancing to Sunday. All games can be streamed live on ESPN+.
