Huskies Post Another Clean Sheet, Take Down #13 UAlbany
ALBANY, New York- The UConn women's field hockey team finishes the weekend 2-0 as they take down no. 13 UAlbany Sunday afternoon behind goals from junior Julia Bressler, and freshman Sophie Perschk.
The Huskies opened the scoring early as the Huskies jumped on the attack early and junior Julia Bressler was in the right place at the right time for the first goal of the match. With the one goal lead, the Huskies defense went to work, holding UAlbany scoreless while allowing just one shot on goal in the first quarter.
The second and third quarters were a defensive battle as both teams were held scoreless. The Huskies defense shined, not letting UAlbany get a shot off. The Huskies looked to extend their lead, but the Great Danes defense rose to the challenge, holding the Huskies to just the one goal through three quarters.
The Huskies offense finally broke through in the fourth quarter as freshman Sophie Perschk was left alone inside the circle and fired the ball past the goaltender to extend the Huskies lead to 2-0. The Great Danes threatened late in the quarter on a penalty corner, but strong defense and some luck saved the Huskies as the ball rang off the post and out of play. Following the chance, the Huskies defense locked down the Great Danes for the remainder of the fourth quarter to secure the 2-0 victory.
With the win, the Huskies add another ranked win to their resume and improve to 11-1 on the season.
