No. 11 Huskies Fall to Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The No. 11 ranked UConn women's ice hockey team fell to Vermont 3-0 on the road Saturday afternoon.

Vermont goaltender Jesse McPherson finished with 33 saves and the shutout, handing junior goaltender Megan Warrener her first loss this season as a starter and UConn's first loss since October 20.

In the first, the Huskies faced a tough Vermont offense early in the period. The Catamounts got on the board in the first 10 minutes of play scored by Brooke George. Then, three minutes later, Vermont knocked in another goal from Kaylee Lewis. The Huskies finished the period outshooting the Catamounts with 11 shots on target to Vermont's seven.

UConn and Vermont went shot for shot to begin the second period, however, the Huskies held the edge in the shot category with eight shots on goal to Vermont's four. 10 minutes into the period, UConn would get the power play on a hooking penalty and soon after the Huskies were penalized for interference to make it 4 on 4. However, both teams went back to even strength and the score stayed at 2-0 Vermont after two.

The Huskies kept fighting in the third period but couldn't find an answer to get the puck past the Vermont goaltender. UConn would head to the penalty kill on a boarding and roughing call while Vermont was called for hitting after the whistle and getting a five-minute major. The Catamounts would capitalize on the 4 on 3 advantage scored by Krista Parkonnen. The final score stayed at 3-0.
