UConn Athletics and UConn School of Medicine Host Inaugural Pre-Med Mixer
STORRS, Conn.- On April 3rd, UConn Athletics proudly hosted an inaugural Pre-Med/Pre-Dental Mixer, bringing together current UConn Medical and Dental students with student-athletes aspiring to careers in medicine and dentistry.
Taking place at Toscano Ice Forum's Blue Line Club, the event provided a dynamic platform for student-athletes to connect with mentors who understand the unique demands of balancing academics and athletics. Reflecting on the experience, Gabrielle Caron, MD Candidate at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, shared:
"The evening was filled with great food, inspiring conversations, and invaluable insights on managing rigorous schedules while pursuing success in the medical and dental fields. A huge thank you to everyone who made this event possible—here's to forging connections and shaping the future!"
This initiative underscores UConn Athletics' commitment to fostering excellence beyond the field, equipping student-athletes with the guidance and resources necessary to pursue their professional aspirations.
Maggie Carley, a member of the UConn Women's Volleyball Program, summed up the event's impact, stating:
"The Pre-Med/Dental Mixer Night was an amazing experience to get to know current medical students who have similar athletic backgrounds to mine and to learn about their experiences from a first-hand perspective. As someone who's still trying to find my path in the medical field, it was beyond helpful to have the opportunity to have authentic and honest conversations with former athletes who discussed the realities of what pursuing medicine looks like. I now have a few connections who I'll be able to continue to talk to as I advance in my career path!"
As UConn continues to build meaningful connections and shape futures, this mentoring event serves as a powerful reminder that dedication and support can pave the way to remarkable achievements—on and off the playing field.
