Huskies Take Game Two At Villanova
VILLANOVA, Pa. – The UConn softball team defeated the Villanova Wildcats, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Villanova Softball Complex. UConn evens the series at one a piece setting up a rubber game to decide the three game series tomorrow afternoon.
Redshirt-sophomore Sydnee Koosh made her seventh start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. Koosh went 5.2 innings giving up two runs on three hits adding three strikeouts.
The UConn offense came to life in the fourth inning as the Huskies hit three home runs in the inning, giving UConn a 4-0 lead. Senior infielder Rosie Garcia got it started with a two-run homer to left center, her third of the season, opening the scoring for the Huskies. A batter later, freshman infielder Cat Petteys hit a solo shot to center field, her third homer in her rookie campaign. The very next batter, sophomore Kaitlyn Breslin hit a no-doubt shot to left center, her fourth of the season, capping off the Huskies big inning with the long ball.
Villanova chipped away the Huskies lead, scoring two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, making it a one-run ballgame.
Junior Hope Jenkins came on in relief for Koosh in the middle of the fifth inning. Jenkins went 1.1 innings giving up one run on one hit with three strikeouts.
Koosh came back in for Jenkins in the middle of the sixth inning. Koosh closed out the game in the circle for the Huskies, keeping the Wildcats at bay.
Junior infielder Kaiea Higa delivered two big insurance runs in the seventh inning with a single to left center, scoring Lexi Hastings and Grace Jenkins, giving UConn some breathing room at 6-3.
