Huskies Bounce Back, Defeat Crusaders to Earn Split

Box Score

HARTFORD, Conn. – The UConn men's hockey team bounced back from the Friday night loss to Holy Cross with a 3-1 victory Saturday afternoon at the XL Center. Joey Muldowney, Trey Scott and Tabor Heaslip were the goal scorers for the Huskies.

In another physical game, the Huskies and Crusaders were trading blows early looking to be the first team to breakthrough. Holy Cross opened the scoring midway through the first period to take the 1-0 lead, but the Huskies responded just one minute later as sophomore Joey Muldowney took the pass from Jake Richard and fired it past the Crusaders netminder for the goal. Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the period as they entered the period break all tied up at one.

The second period was a back-and-forth physical period, with both teams spending time in the penalty box. The Huskies penalty kill had a bounce back night keeping Holy Cross off the scoresheet with the man advantage. Late in the second period, freshman defender Trey Scott in his first career game, collected the loose puck and fired it past the goaltender for his first career goal and to give the Huskies the 2-1 lead.

With the one goal lead, the Huskies defense shined, limiting Holy Cross chances. Junior Tyler Muszelik was strong in net, limiting second chance opportunities and keeping Holy Cross from finding the equalizer. The Crusaders pulled their goaltender with 3:12 left in the third period, and with just 20 seconds remaining in the game, junior Tabor Heaslip sunk the empty net goal, to seal the win for the Huskies.

UP NEXT: UConn will turn its attention to conference action as they will travel to Boston University Friday evening for their Hockey East Opener. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm.
