McNeeley Named to Erving Award Midseason Top 10
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – UConn men's basketball freshman Liam McNeeley has been named to the Midseason Top 10 List for the Julius Erving Award, as announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame on Wednesday (Feb. 5). The Erving Award is its 11th year of recognizing the top small forwards in Division I men's college basketball.
McNeeley is one of the top freshmen in college basketball this season, averaging 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game over his 14 contests. He is a four-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and was the league's preseason Freshman of the Year.
Even early in his career McNeeley has proven to shine on the biggest of stages. He scored 26 points, most for a Husky this season, and grabbed eight rebounds to help UConn to a top-10 win over Gonzaga on Dec. 14 at Madison Square Garden. Earlier in the month he led the Huskies with 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks as they topped No. 15 Baylor in Storrs.
McNeeley has missed UConn's last eight games but is expected to return when the Huskies are back in action on Friday, Feb. 7 against No. 12 St. John's.
