Huskies Host Le Moyne In Hartford, Wednesday
HARTFORD – The No. 3 UConn men's basketball team (2-0) is back in action on Wednesday night when it welcomes the Le Moyne Dolphins (1-2) to the XL Center for a 7 p.m. tip. The contest will air on FS1 with John Fanta and Jim Spanarkel on the call.
The match-up marks the first all-time meeting between Connecticut and Le Moyne. UConn is riding a 28-game home winning streak against non-conference foes into the game and a 15-game winning streak overall – longest in the nation.
The Huskies were last in action on Saturday night against New Hampshire, using a huge second half to knock off the Wildcats by a score of 92-53. UConn scored 57 points and shot over 60 percent in the second frame to balloon an 11-point halftime lead into a laugher. Alex Karaban led the Huskies with 17 points and added five rebounds, four blocks and four assists, while Solo Ball and Jayden Ross both added 14 points. For Ross, it was a career-high and came along with a team-best +34 in 23 minutes of action.
Liam McNeeley finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds against UNH, his second-straight game with a double-double to open his career. He became the first Husky freshman since Corny Thompson in 1978 to begin their time in Storrs with back-to-back double-doubles.
Karaban averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 5.5 blocked shots per game in the two wins last week and earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly honor roll for the sixth time in his career. Karaban is shooting 64.7 percent from the floor and 61.5 percent from 3-point range. He is a consensus Preseason All-America pick and has earned a spot on every major National Player of the Year Watch List.
The Huskies have five players averaging double figures in the early goings of the season, with Ball adding 15.0 per game behind Karaban, Ross and McNeeley each scoring 14.0 per game and Tarris Reed Jr. chipping in 13.0 per contest. The Huskies are among the national leaders in scoring offense at 92.0 points per game and are shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from 3-point range.
Le Moyne is 1-2 on the season, falling at Syracuse and against CSUN in their first two contests before a win on Saturday against SUNY Poly. Will Amica leads the Dolphins with 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while Zek Tekin adds 12.7 per game a team-high 5.3 assists per contest. As a team the Dolphins score 88.0 points per game and are shooting 48.1 percent from the floor.
The Huskies continue their early season home-stand after a six-day break following Wednesday's contest when East Texas A&M visits on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
