HookC Takes Series Opener at Miami

MIAMI - The UConn baseball team (3-7) secured back-to-back wins for the first time in 2025 with a 7-2 victory against Miami in Friday's series opener at Alex Rodriguez Park.

The Huskies scored six two-out runs in the third inning to create distance from the Hurricanes and give LHP Oliver Pudvar some run support.

Sophomore Tyler Minick put the Huskies in front with an RBI base hit to center field. Junior Ryan Daniels followed one pitch later with a rocket RBI double to right to make it 2-0.

After back-to-back walks to Grant MacArthur and Bryan Padilla, Sam Biller smoked a grand slam home run off the parking deck in right center to make it 6-0.

Pudvar ran with the run support and earned his first win of the year with a career-high 5.0 innings pitched and allowed just one run while striking out five.

Connor Lane added an insurance run in the seventh after Aidan Dougherty stole second with two outs, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on the Lane RBI single to make it 7-1.

Former Miami Hurricane JT Caruso pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Huskies and closer Brady Afthim closed out the ballgame in the ninth with a scoreless frame.

UConn looks to win its first series of the year with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
