Paige Bueckers Selected as Naismith Trophy Semifinalist
ATLANTA – UConn women's basketball redshirt senior Paige Bueckers was named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2025 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Award, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club Thursday.
Bueckers is UConn's leader on and off the court in her final season in Storrs. She is averaging 19.0 points and 4.9 assists per game. One of the most efficient guards in the nation, Bueckers is currently averaging a .536/.406/.899 shooting split, one made free throw from a 50/40/90 split.
Bueckers leads the nation with a 3.9 assist-turnover ratio.
Bueckers became the first player in BIG EAST history to be named the tournament Most Outstanding Player three times. She was the fourth player in league history to be named Player of the Year three times.
Against ranked opponents this season, Bueckers is averaging 19.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.
Bueckers became the fastest player in program history to 2,000 career points, reaching the milestone in her 102nd career game. She is one of three Huskies all-time to reach 2,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.
Bueckers was named to the Wooden Award National Ballot and is a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award.
Bueckers won the Naismith Trophy in 2021, becoming the first freshman to earn the award.
Seven Huskies have won the Naismith Trophy a total of 11 times: Rebecca Lobo (1995), Sue Bird (2002), Diana Taurasi (2003, '04), Maya Moore (2009, '11), Tina Charles (2010), Breanna Stewart (2014, '15, '16) and Bueckers (2021).
