Huskies set for home and home series with Providence

STORRS, Conn. – The 14th ranked UConn women's hockey team (19-9-2, 17-4-2 Hockey East) will play a home and home series this weekend against the Providence Friars (17-10-3, 13-8-2). The first matchup will be on Friday, February 14 at the Toscano Family Ice Forum with puck drop slated for 6:00pm. TICKETS

Coming into the weekend, the Huskies currently sit in second place in the Hockey East standings on 52 points, just one point behind first place Boston University with four games remaining in the regular season.

UConn's success this season has stemmed from their defense as the Huskies rank atop the conference in scoring defense (1.60) and team goals against average (1.586). Led by top blue-liners Ava Rinker (Elverson, Pa.) and Meghan Duchesne-Chalifoux (Montreal, Quebec), the duo has combined for 25 of 47 points recorded from UConn defensemen this season. Rinker has dished out a season high 16 assists this season which leads the Huskies roster and ranks second in Hockey East.

Senior goaltenders Tia Chan (Hamilton, Ontario), and Megan Warrener (Stoney Creek, Ontario) have been a solid back stop for the Huskies this season. The duo has combined for 731 saves, posting a combined .938 save percentage. Chan and Warrener have conceded only 48 goals this season which ranks fourth in all of Division I.

Scouting Providence

The Providence Friars come into this weekend's series one of the hottest teams in the country, as they have won ten of their last twelve games. The Friars are coached by Matt Kelly in his seventh season. Providence has been led by a pair of forwards this season in Audrey Knapp and Reichen Kirchmair. The Huskies won the first meeting against the Friars this season back in October. UConn's Martha Mobarak scored a third period game winner, propelling UConn to a 3-2 win.

Both games this weekend will be streamed on ESPN+.
