Huskies Head to Providence this weekend
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team heads to Providence this weekend for a three-game series against the Providence Friars. The series begins on Friday, April 11 with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00pm with the second game to follow after the conclusion of game one, tentatively scheduled for 3:00pm. The series finale is scheduled for Sunday, April 13 at 3:00pm. All games will be streamed on FloSports.
UConn (22-13) comes into the weekend winners in nine of their last eleven games. In those eleven games, the Huskies have scored 102 runs with 19 home runs, and 29 doubles, posting a collective .379 batting average as a team. UConn is currently in second place in the BIG EAST standings with a 9-3 record at the halfway point in conference play.
UConn has eight players hitting over .300 in conference play this season. The Huskies rank atop the conference in batting average (.363), runs scored (102), doubles (30), home runs (21), and slugging percentage (.640) through their 12 BIG EAST games this season.
Junior infielder Kaiea Higa has been one of the Huskies hottest hitters as of late, as the Washington native carries a 12 game hitting streak into the weekend. Higa has 17 RBI in her last nine games and is coming off her first career three-hit game against UMASS on Wednesday.
Scouting Providence (15-21, 8-7 BIG EAST)
The Providence Friars are coming off a series win over Seton Hall last weekend and are winners in four of their last five games. The Friars are currently in sixth place in the BIG EAST standings with a 8-7 record. Providence is coached by Kelsey Christensen in her second season. The Friars pitching staff has had success in conference play this season, ranking third in era (3.60) and second in strikeouts (65). Providence returns All-BIG EAST second teamer Gabriella Lee to their 2025 roster. UConn won last year's series against the Friars, 2-1. The Huskies lead the all-time series, 54-25.
