Huskies Ink Top Transfer Silas Demary Jr.
STORRS – The UConn men's basketball team has picked up a pledge from Silas Demary Jr., with the 6-5 guard signing an aid agreement on Thursday (April 3). Demary (pronounced dem-uh-ree) Jr. joins the Huskies after two seasons at Georgia, where he was a double-figure scorer and All-Freshman team selection. He will join Connecticut for the 2025-26 season with two years of eligibility remaining.
"Silas is the type of big guard we love at UConn and we can't wait to get him in the mix," head coach Dan Hurley said. "He can score from all three levels, play-make and use his length to guard multiple positions. Silas comes from a great family and will fit our championship culture to a tee."
Demary Jr. logged 70 games for the Bulldogs from 2023-25, appearing in every game both seasons and starting all but one. Overall in his Georgia career he averaged 11.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game. The Wake Forest, N.C. native is a 35.3 percent shooter from 3-point range and hits at a 75.4 percent clip from the charity stripe.
As a freshman in 2023-24, Demary Jr. started every game aside Senior Day for a team that reached the NIT Semifinals and averaged 9.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team after finishing as one of five league rookies to score in double-figures in conference play. Demary Jr. added a team-high 1.4 steals per game, 11th in the SEC.
In his sophomore year this past season Demary Jr. upped his production across the board. Starting all 33 games for an NCAA Tournament team, he averaged 13.5 points per game to go along with 3.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Demary Jr. improved his 3-point percentage to a 37.4 percent mark in his second season and shot 80.4 percent from the free throw line, going to the stripe nearly five times per game.
Demary Jr. has recorded six career 20-plus point games and had a career-high 26 at Texas during his sophomore campaign. In his second year he was one of eight players in the loaded SEC to rank top-20 in the conference in both scoring and assists. He ranked seventh in the conference with 1.7 steals as a sophomore and his 80.4 free throw percentage was also top-20 in the conference.
Prior to enrolling at Georgia, Demary Jr. prepped at Combine Academy in Lincolnton, N.C. as a senior, Liberty Heights in Mooresville, N.C. as a junior and spent his first two high school years at Millbrook High School in Raleigh. He was a consensus Top-65 recruit coming out of high school and a top-10 lead guard in his class.
Demary Jr. is the son of Shanté Demary and Silas Demary, Sr. and he has two sisters – a twin Sierra and an older sister Samara. His father was a star defensive lineman at Virginia State and spent eight seasons in the Arena Football League from 2001-08, earning Defensive Player of the Year in 2005 and a pair of All-Arena honors.
The Huskies' incoming class for 2025-26 now sits at five, with Demary Jr. joining incoming freshmen Darius Adams, Jacob Furphy, Braylon Mullins and Eric Reibe.
