Huskies Grab First BIG EAST Win of Season
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The UConn women's lacrosse team notched their first BIG EAST win on the season on Tuesday afternoon, heading out to Indianapolis, Ind. and coming away with a 17-7 win over the Butler Bulldogs. The win improves the Huskies to 8-4 overall on the year and 1-1 in conference play.
UConn dominated on the draws on Tuesday, holding a 19-7 edge led by senior Riley Daley (Ipswich, Mass.) who won 11 on the day. The Huskies, who held a 37-21 shot advantage, fell behind 1-0 but rattled off six-straight and never looked back en route to the win. UConn dominated the second quarter, scoring nine goals on the way to 13-3 lead at the break.
R-Junior Rayea Davis (Henrietta, N.Y.) led the offense, scoring four goals and assisting on two others for the Huskies. Junior Karsyn Burnash (Adams Center, N.Y.) chipped in with three goals while sophomores Emma Dacey (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Eve McGrogan (Nyack, N.Y.) both scored a pair in the win.
In goal, grad student Tori Cini (Syosset, N.Y.) made six saves to earn the win.
The Huskies return home after a four-game road swing to play host to BIG EAST foe and No. 23 ranked Denver on Sunday, April 6. Opening draw against the Pioneers is scheduled for 12 noon on Morrone Stadium.
