Huskies Battle to Scoreless Draw against No. 13 Akron on Senior Day
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw in the regular season finale against the No. 13 ranked Akron Zips on Saturday afternoon at Morrone Stadium. With the result, the Huskies finish the regular season at 3-2-3 in conference and 8-3-6 overall, earning the seventh seed in the BIG EAST Tournament starting next week.
UConn honored five seniors on Saturday as student manager Steven Hu, and student-athletes Michael Suski (Avon, Conn.), Jalen Commissiong (Bermuda), Greg Maclean (Walpole, Mass.), and Scott Testori (Madison, Conn.) were all recognized before the match.
UConn goalkeeper Max Kerkvliet (Houston, TX) earned his eighth clean sheet of the season, making the only save in the match between both keepers.
UConn controlled much of the possession in the first half as shots were in favor of the Huskies 5-2 going into the half.
Both teams had chances at a game winner in the second half with the Huskies winning the shots battle 3-2, but both teams' defenses were up for the task, keeping the game a stalemate. This is the Huskies fifth scoreless draw, and sixth tie of the season, their most since the 2015 season.
