KA'ANAPALI, Maui – The UConn Huskies wrapped up their fall season taking part in the 2024 Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in Maui and finished 15th in the field of 21 teams that featured five nationally ranked programs.
The Huskies, competing in the tournament for the eighth time, finished the three round, 54-hole tournament at nine-under, shooting 843 (284-273-286), their lowest tournament score this fall. The Huskies made a big move during round two on Sunday, posting their lowest round of the seasons so far at -11 (273).
The No. 2 ranked Oklahoma Sooners took home this year's title shooting 810 (-42), topping No. 32 Colorado by six strokes. The event was once again contested at Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course in Ka'anapali, Maui on the par 71, 6,700 yard course.
UConn was led by sophomore Bradley Sawka (Ellington, CT) and senior Ray Dennehy (Princeton, MA) who both tied for 49th overall shooting their lowest tournament scores of the season. Dennehy was under par in the first two rounds, shooting 71 in round one and 67 on Sunday. He rounded out the tournament on Monday with a 72 for a three-round score of 210 (-3). Dennehy finished with 14 birdies
Sawka also posted a 210 (-3), shooting 73 on Saturday but answering with a 69 on Sunday and a 68 in the final round. Sawka did his damage on the par three's during the tournament, averaging 2.83 strokes per hole to tie for third best in the field.
Sophomore Alex Heard (Boca Raton, FL) returned to the lineup after missing the last two events with injury. Heard shot even par 213 (69-69-75) over the three rounds, a season-low score, to finish tied for 69th. He finished with 12 birdies on the weekend.
Senior Eric Boulger (Walpole, MA) was tied for 80th after shooting 215 (71-68-76) and senior Connor Goode (Glastonbury, CT) was tied for 92nd with a 217 (73-73-71). Boulger recorded his low round of the season shooting 68 on Sunday on the way to a season-low tournament score.
The Huskies will be off until picking up in the spring semester with the BIG EAST Match Play event on February 3 and 4.
