Huskies Fall to Northeastern in Hockey East Semifinal

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 1 seeded UConn women's hockey team fell to the No. 5 seed Northeastern Huskies, 3-1 in the Hockey East Semifinal on Wednesday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. 

Tia Chan made her 24th start of the season in goal for the Huskies. Chan made 28 saves. 

The game was scoreless through the first 20 minutes as UConn edged Northeastern in shots, 13-12. 

UConn opened the scoring midway through the second period on the power play. Senior forward Riley Grimley scored her fourth goal of the season, and first of the postseason, giving UConn a 1-0 lead. 

UConn took the one goal lead into the third period as the Huskies outshot Northeastern 10-8 in the second period. 

Northeastern came out strong in the third period, scoring three goals in the final frame, seizing the lead away from the Huskies. 

Northeastern scored an equalizer with 13:38 remaining in the third period. Skylar Irving scored her 16th goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1. 

Northeastern took their first lead of the game six minutes later as Irving scored her second goal of the game, putting UConn in a 2-1 deficit. 

Northeastern made it 3-1 with three minutes remaining, putting the game out of reach for the Huskies.
