No. 7 UConn to Close Out 2024 vs. Providence
STORRS, Conn. – The seventh-ranked UConn women's basketball team (10-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) hosts conference rival Providence (7-7, 0-1) in the final game of 2024 on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the XL Center. The game will air on SNY and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).
UConn will celebrate Bleed Blue Year's Eve on Sunday to close out 2024. Fans attending the game should wear BLUE.
Freshman Sarah Strong was named the BIG EAST's Player and Freshman of the Week on Monday. Strong led the Huskies with 25.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. She added nine assists, two blocks and five steals in two games last week.
UConn narrowly fell to No. 7 USC, 72-70, on Dec. 21 in the XL Center. The Huskies trailed by as many as 18 points but were able to come back to briefly take the lead in the fourth quarter. Strong had her third double-double of the season with 22 points and 13 rebounds vs. USC while adding five assists and four steals.
The Huskies are 48-21 all-time vs. the Friars. UConn has won the last 36 meetings between the teams. Providence assistant caoch Kaili McLaren is a 2010 graduate of UConn and won the 2009 and '10 NCAA Championships with the Huskies.
Providence fell to Seton Hall, 51-40, in the Friars' BIG EAST opener last Saturday. This season, Grace Efosa leads the Friars with 16.0 points per game. Head coach Erin Batth is in her second season at Providence.
