Muhammad and Surdej Secure BIG EAST Weekly Awards

STORRS, Conn.- Freshman high jumper Enaji Muhammad (Branford, Conn.) and senior thrower Natalia Surdej (Lancaster, N.Y.) were respectively named BIG EAST Men's and Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Muhammad set a new personal best in the high jump on Friday at the Dog Fight Invitational, winning the event with a jump of 2.14m. The jump of 2.14m is the 7th best event performance in UConn outdoor program history. The All BIG-EAST jumper continues to shine in his first season as a Husky, taking home first place in his first two outdoor season high jump competitions.

Surdej took home the top spot in the hammer throw on Friday, with a performance of 59.14m, over six meters ahead of the second-place finisher. Surdej has put together two consecutive top-3 performances in the hammer throw this outdoor season, finishing in 3rd at the Yellow Jacket Invite with a throw of 58.28m.

The Huskies return to action this weekend at the Crimson Tide Invite hosted by the University of Alabama on Friday, April 11th.
