No. 7 UConn to Face Marquette on New Year’s Day
STORRS, Conn. – The seventh-ranked UConn women's basketball team (11-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) travels to Marquette (9-3, 1-0) on New Year's Day at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT. The game will air on SNY and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).
Four of the Huskies' next five games and six of UConn's nine games in January are on the road.
UConn beat Providence 67-41 in the XL Center last Sunday. Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers led UConn with 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting and added four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Freshman Sarah Strong continued her streak of scoring in double digits in each game this season, notching 14 vs. the Friars.
Sophomores KK Arnold and Ashlynn Shade each notched four steals as UConn forced 31 Providence turnovers. UConn scored 40 points off turnovers.
The Huskies are 20-1 all-time vs. Marquette. UConn's only loss in the series came at Marquette in Feb. 2023.
Marquette opened conference play with a 78-59 win over DePaul last Sunday. This season, Skylar Forbes leads the Golden Eagles with 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Head coach Cara Consuegra is in her first season at Marquette.
