Huskies Head to Mercer This Weekend
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (4-4) heads to Mercer University this weekend for the MUSB Invitational. UConn will begin the weekend on Friday, February 21 with a pair of matchups beginning at 1:30pm against Jacksonville. The Huskies will play a total of five games on the weekend, against Jacksonville, Middle Tennessee, Alabama State (2x), and Mercer.
UConn is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the JU/UNF Invitational.
UConn's offense has led the way so far, ranking towards the top of the BIG EAST in hits (67), home runs (7), scoring (5.63), and total runs (45). Senior outfielder Lexi Hastings (Lynchburg, Va.) leads the Huskies lineup in batting average (.448), hits (13), and stolen bases (4). Hastings was recently named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this past week for her performance at the JU/UNF Invitational last weekend. Junior catcher Grace Jenkins has also been swinging a hot bat to start her 2025 season for the Huskies. Jenkins leads the Huskies in runs batted in (11), doubles (3), runs scored (12), and slugging percentage (1.040). Her four home runs this season ranks atop the conference and 21st in all of Division I.

Jacksonville
The Jacksonville Dolphins (6-4) come into the weekend on a four game winning streak. The Dolphins are coached by Erica Ayers in her 10th season. These two teams met last weekend at the JU/UNF Invitational as Jacksonville beat the Huskies, 7-1. The Dolphins are led by senior outfielder Haley Fox this season. Jacksonville leads the all-time series, 3-2.
Middle Tennessee
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (3-7) are coming into the weekend on a five game losing streak. The Blue Raiders are coached by Jeff Breeden in his 13th season. Middle Tennessee has been led by freshman infielder Jana Want. UConn won both matchups against Middle Tennessee a weekend ago. UConn leads the all-time series 2-0.
Alabama State
The Alabama State Hornets (0-10) come into the weekend winless so far in the 2025 season. The Hornets are coached by Camise Patterson in her first season. Alabama State has been led by senior outfielder Jaibriel Terrell this season. These two programs have only met once before back in 2011, as the Huskies beat the Hornets, 11-6 (Mar. 4).
Mercer
The Mercer Bears (5-4) are coming off a loss to Georgia State on Wednesday. The Bears are coached by Lindsay Fico in her fourth season. Mercer has been led by senior infielder Tori Hedgecock this season. UConn leads the all-time series, 2-1, with the last matchup going to the Huskies, 6-1 in 2019 (Mar. 17).
