2024 Olympics - Huskies in Paris

OLYMPIC COMPETITION SCHEDULE  ||  U.S TELEVISION SCHEDULE

STORRS, Conn. - Eleven UConn standouts in women's basketball players Diana Taurasi, Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, Aaliyah Edwards, Kia Nurse, Gabby Williams and Tiffany Hayes, men's basketball player Niels Giffey and field hockey players Karlie Kisha, Sophie Hamilton, and Cecile Pieper are set to are set to participate in the 2024 Olympics, taking place in Paris, France. The opening ceremony takes place on Friday, July 26 with the games running through Sunday, Aug. 11.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

DIANA TAURASI, UNITED STATES

Taurasi, a 2003 graduate of UConn, is making her record sixth straight Olympic appearance. She has won five Olympic gold medals. Taurasi has played more games than any other women's player in USA Basketball Olympic history (38) and is second in points scored (414), trailing only Lisa Leslie (488).

NAPHEESA COLLIER, UNITED STATES

A 2019 graduate, Collier is making her second Olympic appearance for Team USA. At this year's Olympic qualifying tournament, Collier averaged a team-high 19 points along with 4.7 rebounds, 3 assists and a team-best 3.7 steals while playing 23.5 minutes per game.

BREANNA STEWART, UNITED STATES

Stewart, a 2016 graduate, heads to Paris for her third-straight Olympic appearance looking to claim a third gold medal. Stewart was named the MVP after leading the United States to a seventh-straight gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo games

AALIYAH EDWARDS, CANADA

Edwards, who graduated this past spring and then was drafted by the Washington Mystics in WNBA Draft, will be making her second Olympic appearance this summer.  She competed for her home country in the Tokyo 2020 games

KIA NURSE, CANADA

Nurse, a 2018 grad, will make her third Olympic appearance this summer.  In her Olympic debut at Rio 2016, Nurse led Canada in playing time (2:33:20) and scoring (66 points) as the team made it to the quarterfinals. At Tokyo 2020, she again paced the team in scoring with 39 points and averaged 36.1 minutes per game as she accumulated the most playing time on the team.

GABBY WILLIAMS, FRANCE

Williams, a 2018 grad, will make her second Olympic appearance for France after being named to the roster that will represent host nation France in Paris. Williams helped France to the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Les Bleues' second Olympic medal all time. France will compete in its fifth Olympic games and the nation's fourth straight.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL 3-ON-3

TIFFANY HAYES, AZERBAIJAN

Hayes became a naturalized Azerbaijani citizen in 2015 and will make her Olympic debut at this year's games which will be Azerbaijan's first 3x3 appearance at the Olympics. Hayes led Azerbaijan to its Olympic berth by winning the 2024 FIBA 3x3 Universality Tournament in April. She earned tournament MVP honors after averaging a team-high 6.5 points per game.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

NIELS GIFFEY, GERMANY

A two-time National Champion for UConn, Giffey will be making his his second Olympic appearance, also competing for Germany in the 2020 Tokyo Games, becoming the first-ever UConn men's basketball graduate to play in multiple Olympic Games. Giffey is one of four all-time Huskies in men's basketball history to participate in the Olympics, joining; Ray Allen (USA, 2000), Emeka Okafor (USA, 2004) and Gavin Edwards (Japan, 2020).

FIELD HOCKEY

KARLIE KISHA, UNTIED STATES

Kisha played for the Huskies from 2014-17 and was part of two national championship teams and four final four teams. During her senior season, she was named an NFHCA Division I All-American and was named to the NCAA Division I Championship All-Tournament Team. A 2018 grad, she is currently an assistant coach at Villanova.

SOPHIE HAMILTON, GREAT BRITAIN

Hamilton will be making her Olympic debut.  While at UConn, she earned NFHCA First Team All-American, NFHCA Regional Player of the Year, and NFHCA Mideast Region First Team honors, while being a finalist for the Honda Sport Award. She was also named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player, All-BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team during her sophomore season.

CECILE PIEPER, GERMANY

Pieper makes her third trip to the Olympic games having played with Germany at the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro and the 2020 games in Tokoyo. She has been named as a reserve for this year's German squad.  While in Storrs, she was named NFHCA First Team All-American, NFHCA First Team All-Region, BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, and All-BIG EAST First Team. She played 99 caps for the German Women's National Team (83 outdoor, 13 indoor) before UConn, and won a bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics with Germany.
