HookC Wins Sixth-Straight, Beats Seton Hall
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (19-17, 6-4 BIG EAST) rallied to win its sixth-straight game with a 5-3 victory against Seton Hall (14-23, 2-5 BIG EAST) on Thursday night at Elliot Ballpark.
Sophomore Tyler Minick led the way at the plate with a pair of two-run homers. The first baseman homered to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning and then gave UConn the lead for good with a two-run bomb to make it 5-3 in the sixth.
Grant MacArthur tallied the other run for the Huskies offense with a solo home run in the fifth. It is the second-straight game that MacArthur has homered.
The Huskies pieced it together on the mound with a bullpen game to open the series. RHP Jude Abbadessa made his second start of the year and pitched 1.0 inning, allowed two runs and stranded the bases loaded to finish the first inning.
LHP Gabe Van Emon followed with 2.0 innings, scattering four hits and one hit by pitch. Van Emon stranded runners at the corners in both the second and third innings.
After the Pirates placed runners at first and second with one out in the fourth, Ian Cooke came out of the bullpen and took control of the game.
Cooke earned his first win of the year with 3.2 innings, allowed one hit, one unearned run and struck out eight. The eight strikeouts move Cooke's career total to 251, ranking fourth all-time.
Brady Afthim came out of the pen and pitched 2.0 shutout frames with three strikeouts to earn his seventh save of the year.
Game two of the series will be Friday, April 18 at 6:05 p.m.

- Tyler Minick registered his first career multi-homer game with a pair of long balls on Thursday night. He is the second Husky to record a multi-homer game this year (Grant MacArthur, Miami).
- UConn is 5-0 when Tyler Minick plays first base this year.
- Ian Cooke is 1-0 with three saves in BIG EAST games this year. The RHP has appeared in five games and registered a 1.84 ERA and in 14.2 innings he has struck out 28.
