UConn (8-3-6) is making their second straight appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament. Last season, the Huskies won the quarterfinal match at St. John's in overtime (Nov. 4, 2023), making an appearance in the semifinal.
The Huskies have been led this season by their defense, ranking 5th in the country in goals against average (.688) and fourth in shutouts (8). Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Max Kerkvliet has led the way for the Huskies as he ranks atop the conference in save percentage (.825) and shutouts (8).
Providence (10-4-3) closed out the regular season with a 1-0 victory over Xavier, earning a share of the BIG EAST East Division Regular season title with St. John's. The Friars come into the postseason ranked 25th in the national poll. Providence edged out the Huskies in the regular season matchup in Storrs, 2-1 (October 23), with all three goals coming in the second half.
