No. 7 UConn Hosts Xavier Wednesday in Hartford
STORRS, Conn. – The seventh-ranked UConn women's basketball team (13-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) takes on Xavier (5-9, 0-3) Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the XL Center. The game will air on SNY and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (The River 105.9).
UConn will celebrate Pride Night on Wednesday to honor the LGBTQ+ community. The Hartford Gay Men's Chorus will sing the national anthem, and the team will wear specialty shooting shirts. UConn's Rainbow Center will have a table at the top of Section 124.
UConn is outscoring BIG EAST competition by an average of +31.0 points per game. The Huskies lead the conference in scoring offense, scoring defense, scoring margin, field goal percentage and assists per game.
Freshman Sarah Strong scored 21 points to lead UConn past Villanova, 83-52, last Sunday. Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers had 15 points and season-high nine assists while sophomore KK Arnold had her second-straight double-digit point season with 15 points.
UConn is 8-0 all-time vs. Xavier. This is the only meeting between the teams this season as UConn plays Xavier and Butler only once each.
The Huskies outscored the Wildcats 48-8 in the paint. UConn had a season-high 30 assists on 35 made field goals, led by Bueckers' nine.
Xavier fell to DePaul, 65-60, last Thursday. This season, Meri Kanerva leads Xavier with 11.2 points per game. Head coach Billi Chambers is in her second season at Xavier.
