Geno Auriemma Named Naismith Coach of the Year Semifinalist
ATLANTA – UConn women's basketball head coach Geno Auriemma was selected to the 2025 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year semifinalist list, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club Thursday.
In his 40th season, Auriemma has led the Huskies to a 31-3 overall record, including a perfect 18-0 in BIG EAST Conference play. UConn won the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles.
UConn finished the season undefeated in conference play for the 19th time under Auriemma. The Huskies won their 31st regular season conference championship and 30th tournament conference title, all under Auriemma. He was named the BIG EAST's Co-Coach of the Year this season.
UConn has achieved a 30-win season for the 28th time in the last 32 seasons.
On Nov. 20, Auriemma became college basketball's all-time winningest coach. He currently holds a 1,244-165 (.833) career record.
UConn played the sixth toughest schedule in the nation this season, the highest ranking for a non-Power 4 program. Auriemma is the only coach on the 10-person list not at a Power 4 program.
Auriemma is an eight-time Naismith Coach of the Year recipient, the most of any coach in the award's history.
UConn alumna and former assistant coach Shea Ralph, now the head coach at Vanderbilt, was also named to the semifinalist list.
UConn will find out its road in the NCAA Tournament during the Selection Show this Sunday at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
