Huskies Upset Xavier, Remain Undefeated in Conference Play
Cincinnati, Ohio - The UConn women's tennis team upset the reigning BIG EAST Champions Xavier University on the road Friday afternoon by a final of 4-3. With the win, the Huskies improve to 4-0 in conference action.
The Huskies started out strong, securing wins in both the no.2 and no.3 doubles. The duo of Isabel Petri Bere and Victoria Matos got the Huskies momentum going as they comfortably won by a final of 6-4. In singles, Olivia Wright dominated in no.1 singles winning 6-1, 6-2, and the Huskies were able to clinch the match following wins from Cameron Didion and Chloe Lomans.
"This was a huge win for our program over Xavier today," said head coach Glenn Marshall. 'They are the four-time consecutive BIG EAST Champions since 2021, so this is an historic accomplishment for our team. We came out strong in doubles again, and clinched the doubles point in an exciting tiebreaker from Chloe and Bella. We started singles with some momentum and confidence, and the energy level was great today. I'm so happy for the ladies and this win today. Everyone contributed today to get us one of our best wins in program history."
