UConn BSB Defeats Hofstra

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (14-17) got back in the win column with an 12-4 victory against Hofstra (12-21) on a cold Wednesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark. 

LHP Charlie West made his first career start and had a standout day on the mound by earning his first career win with a career-high 5.0 innings and eight strikeouts on the afternoon.

The Huskies immediately jumped in front in the first inning with back-to-back walks to Rob Rispoli and Caleb Shpur to open the frame. Ryan Daniels and Tyler Minick followed with RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead. 

Leading 2-1 in the third, Aidan Dougherty and Sam Biller delivered RBI singles to push the lead to 5-1. 

Shpur extended the UConn lead in the fourth with his second triple of the year to plate another run for the Huskies and make it 6-1. 

Biller and Connor Lane capped the scoring in the eighth with back-to-back run scoring doubles. 

Greg Shaw III was strong on the mound with 1.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen. 

Next up, the Huskies play their first home series of the year with a three-game set against the Georgetown Hoyas. The series is set to begin on Friday, April 11 at 6:05 p.m.
