WSOC Squares Off vs. No.14 Stanford in NCAA Second Round
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The UConn women's soccer team (14-4-4) faces No. 3 seeded and No. 14 ranked Stanford (14-4-1) in the NCAA Second Round on Friday, Nov. 22 at 4 PM ET / 3 PM CT at Razorback Field on ESPN+.
The winner of Friday's match will face the winner of Arkansas/Cal on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 7 PM ET / 6 PM CT.
The Huskies were on of five teams to win a road game in the NCAA First Round after defeating No. 6 seeded Rutgers, 2-1, last Saturday in Piscataway, N.J. Junior Chioma Okafor scored her team leading 13th goal of the season while graduate student Lucy Cappadona added a tally for the third time in the last four matches.
In its 32nd NCAA Tournament appearance and first appearance, UConn won its fourth-straight NCAA First Round match and are now 50-31-2 all-time in the NCAA's.
The Huskies are looking to advance past the NCAA Second Round for the first time since defeating Notre Dame in the 2015 NCAA Second Round. UConn is 13-3-1 all-time in the NCAA Second Round.
The Huskies and Cardinal have faced once in the NCAA Tournament with UConn winning 2-0 in Palo Alto, Calif. to advance to the 2007 NCAA Quarterfinals.
Friday's match will be a milestone match for defender Lucy Cappadona, the Marlborough, Mass. native will play in her 90th career match. She has started in every UConn match since arriving in the fall of 2020.
The trip to Fayetteville, Ark. is the second for the UConn program with the Huskies playing a pair of matches in 2018. UConn defeated Ole Miss, 4-3, on Sept 7 and then lost to the Razorbacks 3-1 on Sept. 9.
