Kiplimo and Mooney Secure Weekly BIG EAST Honors
STORRS- Faith Kiplimo (Eldoret, Kenya) and Josh Mooney (Stonington, Conn.) have been respectively named BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete and Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Kiplimo put together a dazzling performance in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Saturday. The freshman finished second in the event with a time of 10:07.45. Kiplimo's mark of 10:07.45 ranks second all-time in UConn program history. Currently, the performance ranks first in the BIG EAST and 14th in the country.
Mooney continued his strong sophomore season, taking home 5th place in the javelin throw in Tuscaloosa with a throw of 68.01m, vaulting Mooney in the program all-time top 10 in the event. This is the second time in the last three weeks that Mooney has won the Men's Field Athlete of the Week award, securing the recognition on April 1st after his strong showing in the decathlon at the Texas Relays.
The Huskies are back in action this weekend hosting the Northeast Challenge on Friday, April 18th and Saturday, April 19th.
