HookC Takes Series Opener at Campbell
LILLINGTON, N.C. - The UConn baseball team (6-8) claimed the series opener at Campbell, 6-5, on Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
LHP Oliver Pudvar earned his second-straight victory with 6.0 innings of one run ball and posted a career-high eight strikeouts.
The Huskies scored all six of their runs in the fourth with 11 batters coming to the plate. Tyler Minick and Ryan Daniels led off the frame with back-to-back singles and both came around to score on a two-run double from Grant MacArthur to take a 2-1 lead.
The Huskies extended the lead on an Aidan Dougherty bunt base hit that was thrown down the right field line to plate Bryan Padilla. Outfielder Sam Biller followed with an RBI single to make it 4-1.
Connor Lane delivered an RBI safety squeeze to push the lead to 5-1.
Minick capped the frame with an RBI single to right field to push the lead to five.
Brady Afthim earned his first save of the year, and ninth of his career, by recording the final six outs of the game. With the bases loaded and two outs, Afthim coaxed a ground out to second to secure a 6-5 victory.
The Huskies and Camels will wrap up the three game set on Saturday, March 15 with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
