Huskies to Host Merrimack and Northeastern this Weekend
STORRS, Conn. – The No. 15 ranked UConn women's hockey team is set for two Hockey East matchups at the Toscano Family Ice Forum this weekend beginning on Friday, January 31 as the Huskies welcome the Merrimack Warriors to Storrs. UConn will then host the Northeastern Huskies on Saturday, February 1. Puck drop for both games are set for 6:00pm and will be streamed on ESPN+. TICKETS
UConn (16-8-2) is currently riding a nine game unbeaten streak dating back to November 29, posting a 7-0-2 record in that span. The Huskies are currently tied for first place with 42 points in the Hockey East standings with Boston University.
UConn's success this season has stemmed from their defense as the Huskies rank atop the conference in scoring defense (1.62), and team goals against average (1.60). Senior goaltenders Tia Chan and Megan Warrener both rank in the top six of the conference in save percentage, with Chan ranking second (0.946), and Warrener ranking sixth (0.929).
Scouting Merrimack:
Merrimack (6-17-3) is coming off two straight losses to Northeastern last weekend. The Warriors are currently in tenth place in the Hockey East standings on 11 points. Merrimack is led by sophomore forward Maria Lindberg with 16 points this season. UConn won the first two meetings of the season with the Warriors back in mid-November 3-2, and 2-0. In their last meeting on November 16, the Huskies held Merrimack to a season low 13 shots.
Scouting Northeastern:
Northeastern (17-8-1) are riding a three game winning streak coming into the weekend. The Huskies are currently in fourth place in the Hockey East standings on 38 points. Northeastern has been led this season by senior forward Skylar Irving with 23 points. UConn lost the first two meetings back in early November by a score of 1-0 in each game. Freshman goaltender Lisa Jönsson had a season high 37 saves on November 9.
