Huskies open 2025 with pair of Hockey East Matchups

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 15 ranked UConn women's hockey team returns to the ice this weekend, as the Huskies matchup with Hockey East foes, Boston College and Vermont. UConn will head to BC on Friday, January 3 for a 6:00pm puck drop. The Huskies return to the Toscano Family Ice Forum on Sunday, January 5 as UConn welcomes Vermont to Storrs. Puck drop is set for 3:00pm. 

UConn is coming off a strong first half of the 2024-25 season going 10-3 in Hockey East play and 12-8 overall. The Huskies currently sit in second place with 28 points, just two points behind No. 13 Boston University (30). UConn will close out the final 14 regular season games all against Hockey East opponents. 

The Huskies three leaders in points all reside on the third line in Claire Murdoch (Toronto, Ontario), Ashley Allard (Ottawa, Ontario) and Kyla Josifovic (Burlington, Ontario). Murdoch leads the Huskies with 15 points so far in her rookie season, scoring six goals and recording nine assists, earning Hockey East player and rookie of the week honors in the first half. Allard has had a great start to her sophomore campaign, scoring six goals and adding six assists as the center of the third line. Her 183 faceoffs won currently ranks second in the conference. Josifovic caught fire down the stretch before the holiday break, scoring in three of UConn's final four games of 2024. The junior forward has a total of six goals and six assists and leads Hockey East with four game winning goals this season.

Scouting Boston College:

The No. 11 ranked Boston College Eagles (12-6) are winners in two of their last three games. The Eagles are currently in third place on 27 points in the Hockey East standings. UConn and BC split the weekend series back in late November as both games were one score games. The Eagles are led by sophomore forward Sammy Taber who leads the conference with 20 points this season. 

Scouting Vermont:

Vermont (4-13-2) is coming off a 2-1 win at Merrimack before the holiday break. The Catamounts are currently in sixth place on 14 points in the conference standings. Vermont is coached by Jim Plumer in his 13th season. The Catamounts are led by junior forward Lara Beecher who leads the team with ten points this season.
